Wetumpka, Al. – The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek the public’s assistance
in locating missing person William Austin Mathews.

On August 31, 2026, deputies responded to the Nixon’s Nook area of Wetumpka regarding
Mathews, who was reported missing by his parents. His father last saw him at their residence on
August 29, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Video surveillance later confirmed that Mathews was walking away from his residence near Ellis
Road in Wetumpka at approximately noon on August 29, apparently of his own accord. He has
not been seen or heard from since.

Mathews has been entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person. The
Elmore County Sheriff’s Office has used all available county resources in efforts to locate him,
but those efforts have not yet been successful.

Sheriff Franklin has announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to William Austin
Mathews being found.

Anyone with information regarding Mathews’ whereabouts is encouraged to contact
