Montgomery, Ala. – The Montgomery Police Department is asking for the public’s help in
solving the 2023 homicide of 52-year-old Yvette Carter. A $10,000 reward is now being
offered for information that leads to the identification and arrest of those responsible.

The reward includes:
• $5,000 from CrimeStoppers 215-STOP
• $3,000 from Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed
• $1,000 donated by Montgomery City Councilman Oronde K. Mitchell
• $1,000 donated by Montgomery County Commissioner Carmen Moore-Zeigler

Police say on February 11, 2023, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers and Montgomery
Fire/Rescue responded to the 4900 block of Hatton Avenue after receiving reports of a person
who had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Yvette Carter suffering from a life-
threatening gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have released surveillance images of three suspects believed to be connected to the
homicide. According to detectives, the suspects arrived in a small black sedan with factory
rims and no window tint before the shooting.

The individuals were wearing hooded sweatshirts. One suspect was seen wearing all black with
a white or gray hood, black pants, and white shoes, while pulling what appeared to be a rifle
from his pants prior to the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and detectives are urging anyone with information about the
suspects or the shooting to come forward.

The reward for information leading to the arrests of any individual involved in the death of 52-year-old Montgomery citizen Yvette Carter has increased.  City Councilman Oronde Mitchell has donated $1,000 and County Commissioner, Carmen Moore-Zeigler has donated $1,000 to CrimeStoppers in the hope that someone will come forward for justice to be served.  Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is increasing its cash reward from $1,000.00 to $3,000.00.
 
Montgomery City District 6 Councilman Oronde K. Mitchell met with the family in person and provided words of comfort while vowing to stand by the victim’s family as they seek answers. Councilman Mitchell said, “I want all residents to feel safe in the neighborhoods they live in.”
 
Montgomery County Commissioner District 2 Carmen Moore-Zeigler was quoted saying, “Violence has no place in District 2 or any area of Montgomery.” “I stand with Yvette Carter’s family in seeking closure and justice for their loved one and all those impacted by senseless gun violence in our community,” said Commissioner Moore-Zeigler.
 
On Saturday, February 11, 2023, at about 10:35 p.m., police and medics responded to the 4900 block of Hatton Avenue in reference to a subject shot. Upon arrival, units found the victim, Yvette Carter, 52, who sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Carter was pronounced deceased on the scene.
 
Investigators provided an update with new suspect photos and video to CrimeStoppers on March 21, 2023. Investigators say the three pictured suspects were seen exiting a small black sedan with no tint and factory rims before the shooting.  The three subjects were wearing hoodies. One subject is seen walking from the car wearing all black with a white or grey hood, black bottoms, and white shoes, while pulling a rifle from his pants before the shooting.
