Lamar Whittaker was shot and killed as he helped a stranded motorist. As we approach the 5-year anniversary of his death, we have elevated the reward to $5,000 for information that leads to closure for Mr. Whittaker’s family.
The Phenix City Police Department and CrimeStoppers are marking the fifth anniversary of the unsolved murder of 35-year-old Lamar “Dontaye” Whittaker, who was shot and killed on October 17, 2020, near 10th Avenue South and 4th Place South.
Investigators say Mr. Whittaker had stopped to help a stranded motorist and was working on the vehicle when gunfire erupted. He was found against the curb next to the broken-down car. Evidence indicates Mr. Whittaker was not the intended target.
Mr. Whittaker leaves behind a son and an extended sports family who continue to seek justice.
CrimeStoppers now offers a $5,000 cash reward for information that leads to a suspect and arrest in this case.
